Sports massage is reported to have many beneficial effects in athletes. Sports massage can be used pre-performance, post performance, during training, or for rehabilitation. From elite athletes to recreational exercisers, it is a popular choice.
Many different movements and techniques are used in sports massage. Examples of these techniques include Swedish Massage, Compression, friction, vibration, stretching, trigger point work, and deep tissue work. To add to these Tom will also include Structural Integration, Myoskeletal Alignment Techniques, and plenty of Active Isolated Stretching.
Some of the benefits of Sports Massage include : increased joint range of motion, increased flexibility, decreased muscle tension, decreased neurological excitability (nerves more relaxed), decreased muscle spasms, increased blood flow, decreased chance of injury, and decreased recovery time between workouts.
This is not a lay there relaxing type of massage. The client might be placed in a sidelying posture, seated, and also involving stretching and/or movement by the client.
